Summer to Fall transition 2025 Tips + News
IN THIS ISSUE:
Hello,
It’s here, the cooler air, and shorter days as we transition to autumn. It’s hard to believe that summer goes so fast, yet that is a feature of what a Fire energetic is, fast and passionate, expansive and connecting, burning out fast. Can you feel it too? The increase in cool air and less light is here as we transition to a new seasonal phase of autumn.
On August 7, 2025 in the Chinese lunisolar calendar, Metal and Autumn season began in the Chinese lunisolar calendar. This solar node marker of the Start of Fall is an increased cool temperature and reduced light trend. Now is a good time to collect what expansion of yourself you’ve observed, and what you’d like to collect inward to return to nourish yourself. Fall is a time to clear, refine and collect, which also means oneself. What are some things you may want to clear out of your life, and collect and nourish yourself with? That is the transition energetic of Summer to Autumn.
Reduce or pace the schedule instead of increasing it. Keep a steady schedule instead of ramping up. The Yang Qi warming energy of the summer is going down, so our bodies also are slowing down with this rhythm of nature. Go with it, not against it. Find what clears your mind and soul, and keep a regular system going for your body to attune too. Notice how that feels when you synchronize your activities more to natural laws rhythms.
In the fall, my favourite essential oil for travel is Tea Tree or Niaouli. I’ve mentioned this before in past newsletters and with patients. Tea Tree or Niaouli, similar plant (Melaleuca alternifolia / Melaleuca quinquenervia), has an affinity to the Lungs, and boosts what Chinese medicine calls the “Wei-Defensive Qi”. This is our front line of defense, and our respiratory immune system. More than that, our Wei Qi is also our own energetic boundaries with people and the environment. As the cool air sets in, our immune system lowers due to the lack of warming Yang Qi available to keep our Lung Qi strong. That sets the state for pathogens to invade, so I have Tea Tree / Niaouli around to inhale and diffuse to enhance my Wei-Defensive Qi at this time of year, as my Lungs adjust and attune to the cooler air. I sometimes have a travel diffuser with me to use in a hotel room, or simply open and inhale, and dab a dilute form (pre-made roller ball with 90% grapeseed oil) on my wrist pulse points (Acupoint Lung 9) and inhale. That’s it!

Asian Pears for the Lungs and Respiratory Immunity
As the cold air of shorter fall days fills the air, let’s remember to enhance our Lung’s health from the inside out! My favourite food approach for the fall is to replenish the moisture from the dryness of fall with Asian pears (vs Bartlett). Steam or poach them for the most moistening effect. Ideally Chinese herbs would be added for greater effect. The water content is 10% more than a Bartlett pear and therefore is highly moistening to the body in Chinese medicine. And, it is also delicious! 😊
