December holiday 2025 News + Tips

IN THIS ISSUE:

  • December holiday wishes and tips
  • Practitioner updates and Asian Pear recipe tip
  • Clinic FYI’s

Hello everyone,

As the Gregorian new year comes to a close, and we are near to turning the corner of Winter-Water at the Solstice, I hope you embody the nourishing quality that Water gives, while also embracing creating movement flow and breakthroughs. It is in that stillness and reflection, we can see, hear or feel the enlightenment of our spirit’s next steps. It is also in stillness that Qi – the vital life force – is able to grow. Constant moving will drain Qi. Whatever you do that creates that stillness to hear that quiet inner voice, and cultivate your vital life, practice that more. Acknowledge your little wins toward improving your connection to awareness and insight attunement.

We are grateful to you all that you have chosen our clinic as part of your health and wellness team. As I reach near 20 years, I am honoured to have been blessed with helping so many people, for so long, with the beauty of Classical Chinese medicine.  Thank you for your trust, and your continued interest in longevity, integrated and natural health restoration and optimising. Here is to your continued journey of thriving! And remember this season to wear cozy socks to enhance your immune system strength (especially to bed if you are feeling sick)!

Wishing you a healthy, peaceful, and inspired year ahead.

A Delicious Holiday Twist on a TCM favourite: Spiced Asian Pears

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, cooked Asian pears are often recommended to moisten the lungs, help with dry coughs, and soothe the throat—perfect for the dry winter air! This recipe adds festive spices for a comforting, warming treat.

Ingredients:

2 medium Asian Pears, peeled, cored, and halved

2 cups Water

1 TBSP cup honey or maple syrup

1 cinnamon stick

3 whole star anise

5 whole cloves

1 inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced thinly

(Optional garnish: a sprinkle of crushed walnuts or a dollop of Greek yogurt)

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the water, honey/maple syrup, cinnamon stick, star anise, cloves, and ginger slices. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  2. Carefully add the pear halves to the simmering liquid. Ensure the pears are partially submerged (add a little more water if necessary).
  3. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and gently simmer for 20 to 30 minutes, or until the pears are fork-tender.
  4. Remove the pears with a slotted spoon and place them in serving bowls.
  5. Increase the heat on the poaching liquid and let it reduce by about half, creating a light syrup.
  6. Pour the warm spiced syrup over the pears and serve immediately.

Enjoy this nourishing treat, and I look forward to seeing you in 2026!

Final Clinic FYI’s:

  • Do you have the amazing phlegm dissolver Wei Qi Wind Quell? (Defensive Immunity) Qi Wind Quell. This is best used once you know you are sick and fighting the pathogen and PHLEGM! Get rid of the phlegm quicker and feel better sooner! It is also a great preventive remedy at lower intervals.
  • In February of 2026, Dr. Sonia F. Tan, DAOM will be reaching 20 years of practising Acupuncture! I have continuously practiced for the entire 20 years without more than a 1 month off. As my teaching and school continues to expand, and I focus on training the future, my availability at the clinic may be spotty. This is due to more time away as I travel to teach the specialty of Acupuncture I learned from one of my Shifu’s which isn’t taught in schools – Balance System Acupuncture, known for quick results. I appreciate every single one of my patients, as you have all been a part of this journey. I am happy to be guiding you on your pathway to health. Look for some celebrations in the February year! 🥳
  • A heads up, there will be a rate increase for some of our services effective January 1, 2026. Thank you for continuing to choose our team to guide you on your pathway to health.
