Balance System Acupuncture – Foundations: Level 1 + Level 2
This is an exciting introduction to the style of Acupuncture, from the classics, known for its instant results! You will have tools to apply right away. All teachings are transmitted by Dr. Sonia F. Tan, her experience and lineage. Learn from a Dr. Richard Tehfu Tan certified Gold Level Balance Method practitioner, and experienced educator, Dr. Sonia F. Tan, DAOM, RAc, RTCMP.
Level 1: Single System Balancing
This course provides the basic foundations of six systems of the Balance Method/System. The systems are rooted in the concept of healing the body by balancing meridians. Students will learn the history of the Balance Method/System, the basis of each of the Five main Systems, and the logical processes for determining the meridians to acupuncture, including an easy-to-use format to outline the treatment plan. Participants will be able to apply the concepts immediately in practice and develop effective treatments. A detailed explanation of the Mirroring and Imaging Formats will also be explained to assist participants in effective point selection. Dr. Tan will show how to use distal points in order to avoid aggravating the area of discomfort and will include demonstrations. Particular attention will be paid to musculo-skeletal conditions in this introductory level.
Level 2: Multiple/Global System Balancing
This course expands on the basic principles taught in the Balance System of Acupuncture Level 1 – Single Systems Balance. This class will discuss treatment of functional and internal disorders and how to treat them with multiple systems of Balance System Acupuncture. Participants who attend this class will expand on the knowledge from Level 1, extending their clinical reach from musculoskeletal (MSK), orthopedics and pain, to treating internal medicine disorders, including the discussion of complicated cases that include both MSK pain and functional internal disorders.
Dr. Tan will talk further about the mirror and imaging format and how it is used in clinical practice to treat internal issues and body pain. Advanced treatments with be discussed for use in clinic such an Eight-Meridian combo for gynecological issues. A Four-Meridian will also be discussed as a treatment strategy to treat bronchial disorders, cardiology symptoms, digestive disorders and urogenital diseases.
*Pre-requisite: A license to practice acupuncture. Any health care practitioner who is legally able to practice acupuncture in their jurisdiction, with a minimum of 250 hours of acupuncture and foundational training.
Dr. Sonia F. Tan, has been helping guide people on their pathway to health in the TCM world since 2006. She is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, a Registered Acupuncturist, and a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Practitioner. Dr. Sonia Tan obtained her clinical research Doctorate degree from Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Los Angeles, California. She is also a graduate of the five year Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine program from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Vancouver. Sonia is also a Certified Gold Level practitioner of the late Dr. Richard Tehfu Tan, one of his and Balance Method Acupuncture. She developed the first Certificate program in Balance System Acupuncture at an accredited post-secondary institution – Langara College. She was honoured to be named and be a part of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Medical Teams. Dr. Sonia Tan has been teaching and keynote speaking at various conferences, institutions, and seminars since 2013. Sonia began her career in health with a Bachelor’s degree in Honors Kinesiology, with a specialization in Athletic Injuries, from the University of Western Ontario. While Dr. Tan enjoys variety and a general practice, her areas of passion and focus are in Immunology, Sport Medicine and Migraines & Headaches.
